answer:The why of it is pretty simple: every widget in Dashboard acts like a separate application. Tho more often they do stuff, the more slowly everything else runs. And since the Dashboard is only sporadically visible, it won’t be obvious why the computer is slowing down. It’s doubly difficult to diagnose the problem with Web Clips, since the culprit could be the network or the software. But my guess is that there’s some sort of delay to prevent a web clip from running away with either the CPU or the repeated hits on the outside server. As for a fix: couldn’t find one. You can see most of the code for Web Clip by clicking on the widget (in /Library/Widgets) and selecting show package contents. Peruse the JavaScript to your heart’s content. I didn’t see a refresh delay variable in there, but I might have missed it. (And backup the original before you save any changes!)
