While I’ve never had a hot oil treatment, I am known for having long wonderful hair, so I thought I’d throw my two cents in. What do I do to make my hair wonderful? Nothing. In fact I think it’s the “nothing” that helps it stay healthy. I shampoo and condition once every two days. I don’t use any type of product in my hair, mine’s as flat as a board so there’s really no point in styling it. I let it air dry after showering, and comb it once a day or so. From what I’ve just read about hot oil treatments, they need to be done regularly in order to keep up the shininess, so it’s not a one-time thing. As well, there’s always the issue of being careful with hot oil. However, I’ve stumbled on a recipe which uses olive oil as the base, so I think it’s a viable oil to use. If you want to grow your hair long, I would focus on keeping it healthy by not adding product and treating it delicately, and getting the ends trimmed every few months or so. However I know each person’s hair is different. This site offers a few tips on what vitamins can be taken to help with keeping your hair healthy, well as healthy as a dead protein can be :)
