Hong Kong is not comparable to Tibet. The mainland watched in horror when the colony reverted from British hegemony, and untold wealth and intellect fled the place like it was on fire. It would be interesting to know how many of the current residents hold British passports. Mainlanders may gradually displace those from “the good old days”, but unlike Tibet where the indigenous population can be overrun with impunity, mainland occupation of Hong Kong and Taiwan risk the infection of mainlanders with “dangerous” ideas.
