The most common facet of bipolar depression is its bipolar, or up-and-down, nature. During a depressive period the sufferer will be miserable and without energy. This alternates with a manic period where the sufferer is overactive and energetic, sometimes to the point of excessive risk-taking or dangerous behavior.
