Benefits of birch plywood
Plywood is a well-known, readily available, and beloved building material by both professionals and home craftsmen. But there are a number of special requirements for the processing of birch plywood, which are very neglected or simply forgotten. Meanwhile, in order not to risk spoiling this material and not reinventing a new bicycle, all masters advise adhering to the experience of professionals. Several nuances of these secrets will be revealed in this article.
PlywoodDrilling birch plywood :
Drilling starts from the front side. The holes will have perfectly straight edges if the drill is equipped with a fairly sharp front cutter. By using a slip sheet, unnecessary splitting of the back side can be avoided.
Joining two plywood sheets:
For connection, grooved, spike and some other connections are used. On walls and ceilings, open, tongue-and-groove, folded, butt joints are recommended. great attention must be paid to the processing of joints, especially if the plywood will be used outdoors (coniferous or birch plywood).
Planing:
If there are still uneven edges after sawing, they should be lightly planed. For an excellent result, plan from the corners to the middle, because this way you can avoid unwanted splitting at the corners. You can also use sandpaper using the same rule.
Glue:
The choice of glue is strongly influenced by the humidity of the room in which the plywood will be used, the way of working and the required strength. Unveiled birch plywood is glued with a special epoxy resin, polyurethane glue, PVA and others. PVA is only suitable for indoor use. In other cases, phenolic glue and epoxy glue work great. For gluing birch plywood to metal, you can use epoxy glue. It is better not to glue the laminated plywood, or to clean it from the film to the visible layer of wood before gluing. Clamps, nails, or screws can be used for strong adhesion. When using nails, the spacing should be approximately 40 centimeters. Excess glue is always removed.
Varnishing:
Each surface must be sanded with fine-grained emery paper before varnishing. After that, the dust formed during grinding is removed, and the new surface is covered with a previously prepared varnish.
Decorative finishing of birch plywood:
Birch plywood can be laminated, painted, impregnated with special tint paint, veneered and so on. The surface can be covered with laminate, veneer, wallpaper and thin film. When choosing a primer or paint, it is important to take into account that cracks can sometimes form on any veneer.
