Answer :

Water's ability to transport a load (a grain of sediment)depends on how fast it is flowing. Fast flowing water can moveboulders but as the water slows its ability to move thingsdiminishes. As a river enters the sea it ceases to flow (it hasreached sea level) and it therefore deposits its last sand firstand only the finest silt is carried further by the inertia of theflow.
