I think friends should be honest with each other and if they need advice, even if it is not what they want to hear, it should be the truth. For instance, if a friend puts on an outfit that looks terrible and asks if they look okay, I think they should be told the truth in the nicest possible way. If they need relationship advice, perhaps it is time to end a relationship that is not working, then as a friend I should tell them what I think. They don't have to agree with what I say but at least I have given an honest opinion.
