How to Build Secret Compartments
Have you ever played hide and seek wished you could hide in a secret portion of the cupboard? Have you ever wanted to hide a secret treasure in a place where no one will ever find it? Well now you can. You can now make your very own secret compartments with some basic materials.
Making a Book Safe
You can transform a hard bound book into a storehouse of secrets.
Open up the book and make an estimate of how deep you want the compartment to be
Use a pencil or some marker to measure out the hollow onto the papers of the book
Get an estimate of the depth from the inside portion of the back cover on the book.
While cutting the center out from the book, make sure the staring portion on the left side is quite far from the edges. This way you can place a rule along the side for easy measurements.
You could use another book for support to ensure stability on the side of the book that isn’t being cut. You could place the book beneath the open cover on the front for added support.
Instructions
You will need to get access to an Exacto knife to cut out the pages and make a hollow. Be warned, however, that these knives are extremely sharp and if not used carefully can be very dangerous. Exercise caution.
Place the ruler on each side of the marked rectangular portion.
Cut along the edges of the ruler till you can cut out a section of the rectangle. Be careful with the corner areas as they require more precision to ensure proper matching edges.
Take out the cut portion of the rectangle with all the pages and discard this heap. Keep cutting in this manner till you have managed to cut out all the pages and you reach the end of the book.
Cut out a piece of velvet or suitable attractive fabric of the same size as the rectangle. Stick this into the inside portion of the back cover.
Use fabric to cover up the four inside edges the rectangle to save the edges of the paper.
This will ensure added depth and create a nice ’secret safe’ like look.
Leave the book open for the glue to dry. Once it is completely dry you can close the book.
Voila! Now you can use your hard cover book to store money, treasures, secret coins, or other mementos!
