How to Build Self-Esteem
Youth is the most important part of one’s life. During this period we start to see things in a different light. This is the point in life when we start to develop our self-esteem. It is for this reason parents are advised to handle their young children with utmost care. This is when a person’s personality is formed. Self-esteem leads to self-confidence.
What you need:
Belief in yourself
Instructions:
Take small steps at the beginning. This will help you to gain confidence.
Start with making small decisions. This will help you make good choices in the future.
If you are making a decision regarding what to wear, which brand to choose, or which color to prefer, then don’t worry even if you are not comfortable with the choice after purchasing it. Most stores will allow you to get it exchanged.
Once you have bought a dress you are comfortable in, wear it the next time you go to a party and let people admire it.
Show off your dress, shoes, or watch that you bought last week, or anything else for that matter. The compliments you get will increase your self-esteem.
Smile and be proud of yourself.
When you make small decisions and time vindicates your judgment, then reward yourself. It does not need to be anything big; even a small cup of ice cream will make you feel good.
Have the courage to dream. When your dreams become true, take pride in your achievement.
Don’t be afraid of your fears; be brave and confront them.
Even if you have failed in achieving your goal, don’t feel depressed. All you need to do is try once again, and then again; you are bound to succeed soon.
Don’t repeat your mistakes.
Be yourself; never compare yourself to others.
Don’t try to please others. The harder you try, the more demanding they will become.
Don’t criticize yourself too much for your failures.
Avoid the company of pessimists.
