How to Improve Your Concentration
Improving your concentration not only works wonders for studying or working, but it can save you an amazing amount of time as well. Think of all the time you saved by concentrating instead of procrastinating. Here’s how to improve your concentration:
Make Space
Having an environment that is clean of clutter can help you adjust to mind free of clutter as well. Make sure that all the things you need are at arm’s length. Having a specific place where you can work and study can help your mind get into the zone of only working and studying.
No Distractions
No one else but you know what distracts you the most. You are your own worst enemy, and there’s nothing like rationalizing to destroy concentration. Start with 15-minute intervals. Turn off your cellphone, log off your chat program, unhook your Internet connection, everything and anything that can take your attention off what you’re supposed to be doing. Once you’re used to your 15-minute pockets of concentration, challenge yourself to make it longer.
Having no distractions should apply internally as well. Stop your mind from wandering, sit up straight, and pay attention on what you’re doing. Use all your efforts on concentrating, and that alone.
Mono-Task
We’ve all heard of multitasking, but what about doing just one thing at a time? A person who knows how to multitask is typically praised by others, but focusing on just one task should be praised as well. Stop worrying about other things you need to do and just prioritize on this one. eff
Follow a Plan
Having a detailed plan on how you intend to tackle the workload in front of you will be helpful in focusing your concentration. Seeing what still needs to be done can help you keep on track. Following a schedule for each task will be very helpful as well.
Practice
Practice holding your concentration as long as possible, not not just by working or studying but in doing other tasks as well. Learning yoga or meditation can help sharpen our concentration and hold our thoughts in one place at any given time. It can be from anything as simple as focusing on your breath or focusing on a novel you’re reading for pleasure. Practice makes perfect.
Take a Break
Having short intervals between your concentration is good for you. It can help relax your mind and absorb the information more fully. When taking a break, don’t deviate too much from what you’re doing, like watching TV after studying. Do something that is relaxing to your mind, such as taking a walk, making yourself a snack, doing breathing exercises or simply reading something else that isn’t work or study-related.
Be Fit
The state of your body affects the state of your mind. Having a fit body can help you feel less sluggish and slow when you need to be quick and alert. Being ill or unhealthy won’t do your concentration any favors, either. So do yourself a favor and take care of yourself by eating healthy, exercising regularly, drinking lots of water and getting enough sleep. All these and a positive thinking will help rejuvenate and sharpen your mind.
