There are basically two types of Aedes mosquitoes that spread this virus. Aedes aegypti is transmitted by mosquitoes in and around the tropics, as they cannot survive in temperate regions. Aedes albopictus mosquitoes can also spread the disease. They can survive in temperate regions. Only female mosquitoes bite during the day. They like to bite more than one person at a time. Once they have eaten blood, they need to rest for three days before laying eggs. Their eggs can survive in water for up to one year. A small amount of frozen water is also enough for egg hatching. The Zika virus is also thought to be spread through sexual contact.
