Burdwan District is a district in the Burdwan Division, located in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. It is mainly an agricultural district. It is called the grain store of West Bengal. The largest city of the district is Burdwan metropolis. Paddy is the main crop of the district. Besides wheat , jute , potato , onion , sugarcane. The district is famous for its Raniganj and Asansol coal mines. There is an iron and steel factory at Durgapur. Not far from the district headquarters Burdwan , Kanchan Nagar is famous for its knife and scissors. Dhatrigram is famous for its weaving cloth.
