Lebap Province (Turkmen: Lebap welaýaty / Лебап велаяты فارسي لب آب Labe âb) is one of the most famous provinces of Turkmenistan. The province is located northeast of Turkmenistan. The river Amu Darya flows along this region. It is also a region bordering Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Its provincial capital is Turkmenabat, formerly known as Karziu. It has an area of 93,630 sq km and a population of 1,334,500 (as of 2005).
