I would take a picture, depends on what kind of snake................they eat mice, voles, moles & bugs....................it could be a brown snake or gardner snake that is green.  I have one floating around my porch and it is a brown snake called a barn snake............Some snakes are good snakes............I would find out what it is.......it wanted to get away from you and that's what it did.............I use a long stick when picking...........
