Expatriates, do you celebrate national holidays?

1 Answer

Answer :

Going through the orphan questions and finding some that I can’t believe no one answered, including this one. I’ve lived overseas and I and the other expatriates I know definitely celebrate the big US national holidays. My mom lives in a small village in Italy with a surprisingly diverse population that includes a bunch of Americans, and not only do they/we celebrate our holidays, they’ve even introduced the Halloween tradition to the village. The village kids get to dress in costumes and do a bit of trick-or-treating and my sister’s Nov. 1 birthday ensures a Halloween-themed party, as well. :)
