If flaps of left and right wing are moving at different speed or the inboard and outboard flap of the same wing are moving a different speeds, then one flap will travel to a higher angle than the other. This condition is called flap asymmetry.
Flap asymmetry is detected by the Asymmetry Position Pick-off Unit or in short APPU. The signal is sent to the SFCC. If flap asymmetry has reached a certain value, the SFCC will command the Wing Tip Brakes to activate. Then the WTB
advanced above the cruise position. However, the full authority type EEC takes control of engine during its entire range of operation – starting from reverse to maximum take-off thrust. The full authority type EEC is called FADEC or Full Authority Digital Electronic Control.
