If someone (not you) asked him if he was wrong or right to break up with you, he would probably answer, “I don’t know.” And, since you have been friends for a long time, he doesn’t want to lose you from his life. All that being said, do you want to keep communicating with him? Seems like the answer is yes, so quit trying to second guess his intentions. If the answer is no, just don’t open the chat with him the next couple days.
