All members of the military go through basic and specialized training such as such as the Marine Corps Military Occupational Specialty School or the Army Advanced Individual Training School. Compensation for military jobs includes monthly base pay, housing, health benefits and incentives such as education credits. Monthly wages are determined by an assigned pay grade. Pay grades are E1-9, W1-5 and O1-10. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Manpower Data Center, as of 2010, monthly wages for the E-level pay grade ranged between $1645 and $5185. Wages for W-level pay grades ranged from $4702 to $6821. O-level wages ranged from $3503 to $15,401 monthly. Employment opportunities for individual members is determined by several factors including the military's need, the applicants choice of field or position and ASVAB test scores. ASVAB test scores are often administered to high school students or new recruits.
