William McKinley was the first president to appear in a movie:he wasn't president yet, but in 1896, he was seen in a movingpicture (as movies used to be called) entitled "McKinley at Home."Movies were brand new, and this was probably the first time anyonehad seen a presidential candidate on the screen. Pres. McKinleyserved from March 1897 until he was assassinated in September 1901.He is best-known for leading the US to victory in theSpanish-American War. As for his domestic policies, he was known asa very pro-business president, and he promoted American business byraising tariffs.
