No. There is no evidence that one species has ever evolved intoanother species, even over long periods of time. Charles Darwinthought that there was no reason why bears could not evolve intowhales:"I can see no difficulty in a race of bears being rendered, bynatural selection, more and more aquatic in their structure andhabits, with larger and larger mouths, till a creature was producedas monstrous as a whale" -- The Origin of SpeciesBut then Darwin was worried because there are no intermediaryforms of one species changing to another in the fossil record.Darwin also said:"Why, if species have descended from other species by finegradations, do we not everywhere see innumerable transitionalforms? Why is not all nature in confusion, instead of the speciesbeing, as we see them, well defined?… But, as by this theoryinnumerable transitional forms must have existed, why do we notfind them embedded in countless numbers in the crust of the earth?…But in the intermediate region, having intermediate conditions oflife, why do we not now find closely-linking intermediatevarieties? This difficulty for a long time quite confoundedme."
