An adult dog should receive food twice a day, 1/3 in the morning and 2/3 of the total feed ration in the evening. What a dog does not eat in about a quarter of an hour should be taken away. On the one hand, this is the only way to find out how much the dog actually eats in total, and on the other hand, the dog should have permanent access only to water, but not to food. After feeding, the dog should have about two hours of rest and should rest, ie. no running, jumping, sharp movements, etc. The German Shepherd belongs to the breeds that can suffer from torsion (overturning) and therefore should not have irregular feeding times and constant access to feed and should have rest after feeding and not give the whole daily ration at once , but in at least two doses. All these measures are part of the prevention of possible torsion, because when such a condition occurs, the dog will die very quickly (within a few hours) without surgery. The maturity of the dog is not derived from the age reached, but from the breed. Some breeds are considered adults at almost three years of age and others are adults at one year.
