Elevated body temperature in a dog (which is above 39 degrees C) can be roughly estimated by palpation on the dog's earlobes. The method is unreliable, but the fever, which can be a symptom of a serious illness (above 39.7), can probably be recognized in this way. Low body temperature (36.5 and less) is also serious, which can indicate a shock condition, etc. The exact body temperature cannot be determined with this palpation method. If you do not want to use rectal thermometer measurement, ear thermometer measurement can be used. However, the ear thermometer requires more skill (especially for a beginner) than conventional thermometers (digital) to measure in the rectum. Rectal measurements are often more pleasant for a dog than measurements in the external auditory canal. In addition, the results of measurements in the ear tend to have different values than in the rectum, so it is recommended to measure the measurements twice (in the rectum and in the ear) and subtract the different results to get to the average and correct value.
