How to Steam Lobster
Seafood like shrimp and fish can be tiring after some time, so if you want something else, here’s a great idea: steamed lobster! You might think this is difficult to make, but it’s pretty simple. If you’re craving a delicious steamed lobster dinner, just follow these steps.
What You’ll Need:
Live lobsters (1 1/4 - 1 1/2 pound for every person)
A lobster pot complete with steaming rack and lid
Potholders
Long-handled tongs
Salt
Water
Melted butter
Celery
Bay leaves
Ground peppercorns
Chopped onions (For more uses of onions, read 7 tearfully-pleasing uses for onions)
Procedure:
Buy several large lobsters from the supermarket. As much as possible, they need to be alive when you cook them. Lobsters contain copper and when they die, this turns to copper oxide which can be poisonous when ingested. Also, live lobsters have fresher and more tender meat. Be aware of the lobsters’ weight, so you’ll know how long to cook them.

Put water in the pot, until there’s two to three inches inside. For every gallon that you put in, add 1/4 cup of salt. Put the peppercorns, chopped onions and bay leaves in the water, too. These will give your steamed lobsters a more delicious taste.
Put the steaming rack into the pot, then turn on the stove and cover with the lid. Let the water boil.
Put the lobsters on the pot carefully. You should time the cooking process. For every pound of lobster, allot 10 minutes then two additional minutes for every 1/4 pound. For example, a 1 ¼ pound lobster cooks for 12 minutes, while a 1 1/2 cooks for 14 minutes.
When you’re halfway through the cooking time, remove the lid (making sure the steam doesn’t get in your face), then rearrange the lobsters using the tongs. This ensures that the lobsters cook evenly.
When the time’s up, turn off the stove then remove a lobster to see if it’s cooked. Its shell should be bright red and the legs easily separate from the body when you twist it. The tail meats should also be white. If still translucent, give it a couple more minutes on the stove.
Serve your delicious steamed lobster with melted butter on the side.
