How to Use Drapery Hooks
Using drapery hooks is a tried-and-tested method of securely attaching your drapery onto your curtain rods to cover your windows. Here’s how to use drapery hooks.
Tools
Drapery hooks
Curtain rod
Drapery with seamed or folded edges
Procedure
There are two kinds of drapery hooks: The light drapery hooks and the heavy drapery hooks. As their names imply, heavy drapes or heavily layered drapes should make use of drapery hooks that can carry their weight. The sizes of the drapery hooks should give you a good clue of what they’re made for, but you can always ask a salesperson to assist you.

At the upper edges of the curtains or the drapes, there are folded seams that divide them evenly. They should be around three to four inches in length. These folded seams are where you should insert the drapery hooks. In turn, the drapery hooks will appear invisible when hooked on the curtain rod.
Find a flat surface where you could at least spread out a portion of the curtain or drapes. Face the folded seams upward, facing you.
A drapery hook is made up of two parts forming one whole. One part is a needle-like portion which is made to insert into the curtain’s edge and another part is the rounded hook made to be attached on the curtain rod.
Start inserting the drapery hook’s pins into the curtain under the seams. The folded seams should have a little cuff or leeway to make way for the drapery hook’s pins. Once inserted, only the drapery hook’s rounded hook should be visible. Insert drapery hooks into all the cuffs.
Sometimes, there aren’t enough folded seams in the edges of the curtain to properly hold up the curtains on the curtain rod. It’s perfectly acceptable to insert drapery hooks between the seams for a more balanced curtain.
You can now hook the drapery hooks on the curtain rod. Either you take the curtain rod down, install the curtains and put it back up again or use a chair to elevate yourself to install the drapery hooks and the curtain.
