How to Pan Fry Steak
Nothing tastes better than grilled or broiled steak, but if these two aren’t great options at the moment, then you can use your stove and frying pan to cook the meat for you. Pan-frying steak is a great alternative, allowing you to have a tasty steak dinner with less fuss. Of course, there are several important steps to remember so that you’ll end up with something juicy, and not charcoal-burnt. Here’s what to do.
What You’ll Need:
Steak (at least an inch thick)
Butter or cooking oil
Pepper, salt, garlic salt and other spices
Water and lemon juice
Table fork
Frying pan with lid
Procedure:
Prepare the steak. Rinse the meat with cold water, then pat dry. Using a table fork, puncture it all over, stabbing it over one side, then turning it and working on the other. These punctures cause channels to form in the meat, and will fill up with juices during the cooking time.

Season the steak. Sprinkle pepper and salt (or whatever spice you plan to use) over one side, rubbing it well with your fingertips. Turn the meat over, then repeat on the other side. Make sure you wash your hands before and after you do this, to avoid transferring bacteria.
Put your frying pan over the stove, then pour some cooking oil in it. For a more flavorful steak, use butter. The stove should be on medium heat. When the oil or butter is hot enough, put the meat into the pan, then put a lid over it. Leave it for a minute.
Remove the pan from heat, then wait for the sizzling to subside before you open the lid. Use a spatula to flip the meat over, put back the lid, then return the steak to the heat for ninety seconds.
Remove the pan from the heat again, waiting for the sizzling to stop. Lift the lid, flip your steak over, then add more spices. Close the lid, then return it on the stove and let cook for five minutes. This cooking time is for well-done steak, so if you prefer a less-cooked meat, lessen the cooking time to at least 3 minutes. Repeat this for the other side, and wait another five or three minutes. When cooked to your liking, take out from the heat, and serve.
Some Tips:
Don’t put the steak over high heat, or its tenderness will disappear.
If you notice that the pan is drying out, don’t add oil. Add half a cup of water with lemon juice, instead. Let the water evaporate by keeping the lid open when the sizzling has stopped, and holding the pan over the heat until the sizzling stops. Close the lid, then put it back on the stove.
You can use a bit of red **** as a more flavorful alternative to water and lemon.
