How to Install Bifold Doors
Sliding doors on closets are great, but they can be a problem when you’re trying to reach the stuff found in the middle where the doors overlap each other. The best alternative is to get bifold doors, and if you know the right procedure, you can do the installation yourself. Here’s how.
What You’ll Need:
Bifold doors (hardware should be included when you buy them)
Measuring tape
Pencil
Electric drill
Hammer
Hacksaw
Screwdriver
Procedure:
If there are doors currently installed where you want your bifold doors to be, remove them. Make sure you do this neatly, and you don’t harm and scratch the walls and surfaces.

Get the measuring tape and use it to measure the height and width of the door’s opening. Get a measurement from every side when you get the height, then from the top to bottom for the width. If the height and width are different, use the smallest measurement of these two. Smaller measurements make up for any difference, especially if the door opening isn’t perfectly square. Write down these measurements.
Buy the right type of bifold doors. Choose those which have a combined width of one inch lesser than the door opening’s width, and one to two inches shorter than the doors’ height.
Install the metal rack on the top, by screwing it to the door frame’s top opening . It’s likely that one side has a plate that can be adjusted. Install the side which has the plate closest to the sidewall. It will be the door’s hinged side.
Get your L-shaped floor brackets and mount them where the floor and sidewalls meet. Afterwards, rest the brackets’ portion which has the cutout on the door opening’s floor. Then, fasten the brackets’ other side to the sidewalls.
Insert the dowels in the pre-drilled holes found on the bifold closet door. Put the dowel that has the screw assembly at the hole found at the door’s bottom, at the side closest to the sidewall. Do the same for the other spring assembly, this time placing it on the hole found at the door’s top, also near to the sidewall. As for the dowel without any assembly, insert it in the hole at the top of the door, the one farthest from the sidewall. Lightly hammer down the dowels in place.
Install the closet doors, starting with the dowels at the top. Put them into the track. Make sure that the dowel closest to the sidewall is put in the plate assembly at the track on top. Push the door up, then guide the dowel at the bottom to the L-bracket lying on the floor.
Adjust and check the height of the doors. You can simply turn the bottom dowel’s screw to lower or raise the doors.
Install the handles and other door hardware that came with the bifold doors. Find the door panel’s centerpoint, the one farthest to the sidewall. Use a pencil to mark it , then drill a hole for the knob. Screw the knob in the hole.
Test your doors by closing and opening them. Do some adjustments if necessary.
Bifold doors are the perfect solution if you’re tired of your usual sliding doors. With these easy steps, you can install one without any difficulties.
