How to Install Baseboards
What separates a decent-looking wall from a gorgeous one is a plank of wood elegantly placed at the bottom. This plank is known as the baseboard. Baseboards are used for many elegant home themes, due to the daintiness they add. Installing them isn’t too complex. With a saw, wooden boards, and some knowledge in carpentry, you can transform your walls into attractive sights.
Measure the Lengths of the Walls

Add a tenth of the measurement of the lengths, so you’ll have enough allowance for trimming and installation errors. Once done, take note of the walls’ color as well as the room’s theme. They are essential for choosing a suitable baseboard material. You can also consult interior design websites, so you’ll have an idea on how your wall will appear with a baseboard.
Purchase Wooden boards and Apply the Finish
Numerous baseboard materials are available on furniture stores. Pick one that suits your walls and room the best. Buy finishing material that complements the boards’ style. Apply the finish. Make sure the layers are even. With the finish applied, the boards are ready to be cut and stylized.
Cut out the Baseboards
Baseboards vary in height and style, depending on your home or room’s design. You have the option to create a flat plank or a ridged baseboard composed of trims of various widths. Cut out the baseboards. Use a miter saw and a coping saw to create impressions on the boards. Once done, drill holes on strategic portions of the boards. The holes will be the insertion points of the finishing nails, which prevents the boards from getting damaged while they are being attached to the walls.
Fit, Trim, and Attach the Boards
Saw the excesses of each board then fit them on the walls. You may need to split some of them, in case the walls are too long. Cut the edges in a v-like pattern, making them look stylish. Once all of the baseboards have been fitted, hammer finishing nails through the holes. Spread a layer of newspaper right below the boards. Paint them with a suitable hue or apply varnish.
Handle Wood with Care
When installing baseboards, you must handle the wood with care. A few mistakes may render some of the boards unusable, which can be quite costly. You can purchase extra boards for practice, in case you’re not adept at handling wooden workpieces.
