How to Write a Mission Statement
Writing your company’s mission statement should be given importance. Time, effort and creativity are needed to accomplish this. Now if you are planning to write it up, here is a set of simple guidelines.
The most important thing to do would be to write down your core values and goals. Think of the things that matter to your company the most. Are you aiming to be world class, innovative, or cost-effective?
Know the Thoughts of People
Of course, it would be better if you ask for the thoughts of the people who work for your company, your clients, and the people who are connected to your business. You may do this by setting up meetings (small groups of a maximum of 20 persons would be better). You can also opt to carry out a survey. This can be done by sending emails or handing out survey forms.
List your Core Values
At this point, put these core values and goals on a list. Combine the statements which are a bit similar. Remove those which do not seem to be that important.
What do Consumers Expect?
Next, think of your products and services and what advantages it can provide your consumers. You can also ask your consumers on what they expect from the products, such as the one you are marketing.
In addition, find out what is unique in your company.
Merge your Data and Compile Your Statement
Then, try to merge or put together all of this. Put the most important ones and discard the other things that you think are non-essential. You can form a small group to do this because it would help a lot to brainstorm.
Afterwards, you can now put on paper your mission statement. Use short and catchy words. Avoid repeating things. You have to try to be as clear and simple as possible.
Then, ask for the approval of your employees and consumers. This would make them feel valued in every business undertaking of your company. You may use another survey for this.
Let Everyone Know Your Mission Statement
At this point, print your mission statement and post it on the walls of your office. Post it in places where it can be seen. The people who work for you should know it!
Finally, as you go along your business, let this mission statement guide the steps you need to take in order to achieve the full potential of your business-related undertakings. If you feel that it needs revision, do not hesitate to do so!
