How to Install Baseboard Heating
If you have a small apartment or room that you want to heat in an efficient manner, one effective method is by using electric baseboard heating. Installing it yourself might seem challenging, but you’ll be surprised to know that a few materials and some basic electrical and carpentry skills are all you need to do this task.
What You’ll Need:
Baseboard heating unit
Electrical tester
Measuring tape
Wire stripper and cutter
Pry bar
Screwdriver
Drill bits and drill
Wire nuts
Procedure:
Be aware of how many windows there are in the room and what type they are. Make sure they are insulated well. Do the same for the doors.
Using the measuring tape, measure the length of the wall where you plan to install the baseboard heating unit. Afterwards, purchase it from a hardware or home improvement store. Take this opportunity to buy the other materials you need as well.
You need to make sure that you have proper access to the electrical voltage you’ll need for the heater. The baseboard unit you buy can be the usual outlet plugged type, or you might need to do a few wiring adjustments to install it properly.
As a safety precaution, turn the power off to the electrical line you’re using to install the baseboard heating unit. You can use an electrical tester to make sure the power is completely off.
Fit the new baseboard heater against the wall. If it doesn’t fit flush, use a pry bar to remove the baseboard.
Put the baseboard heater in place. Make sure you read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions and that the heater is wired properly. Strip a sufficient amount of insulation from one end of the house’s wiring and heater’s wiring, so the wires will be connected. Secure these with wire nuts. You should also check that the ground wire is secure.
Attach the baseboard heater to the wall, drilling holes to match the holes in the heater. Use screws to secure the unit.
Turn the circuit power back on, and see if your newly-installed heater works properly.
Say goodbye to cold, drafty rooms with high-quality baseboard heating. Follow these steps and you’re sure to have a cozy and warm indoor area, all the time.
