The amount of water vapor in the atmosphere is much less in winter. As a result air wants to be saturated by collecting water vapor from anywhere. The lips of the body are very soft. Atmospheric water vapor is drawn from relatively soft parts of the body. As a result, our lips want to burst. Applying glycerin to the lips prevents water evaporation and keeps the lips moist by collecting water vapor from the atmosphere. So glycerin is applied on the lips in winter.
