Simply put, you’re trustworthy or not. It is reasonable to assume that if you will cheat on someone you love, you will more easily cheat someone you don’t. In the case of SO, no one has made a promise to keep. If you’re not committed to someone enough to marry them, then you have no ties to them, and either of you can leave at any time.
