I would say that we have become too obsessed with the idea of youth itself..with scientists lately having breakthroughs in areas that could potentially lengthen the life of a person. I wouldn’t say that respect has diminished for the elders though, its just that the respect has remained the same but the obsession with youth has increased. As for your last question, I’m not American…so my apologies.
