Answer :

Maybe there were more things in that room, like a tv, personal/house computer, internet, etc so they all needed to take a lot of cables to take through the wall, hence a bigger hole. Or, it wasn’t for the cable at all, but for something else. Just saying, I may be wrong. I’ve no idea how it looks like.
