Ram, Suresh and Shilpa, working together, can do a piece of work in 1 day. Ram is thrice as efficient as Suresh, and Suresh takes twice the number of days as Shilpa takes to do it alone. What is the difference between the number of days taken by Ram and Shilpa, each working alone, to complete the work?
a) 1
b) 2
c) 3
d) 4
e) 5

1 Answer

Answer :

Let the time taken by Ram, Suresh and Shilpa to finish the work alone be A, B and C
respectively
Therefore, 1/A + 1/B + 1/C = 1
Also it is given that,
A = B/3 and C =B/2
3/B + 1/B + 2/B = 6/B = 1, or B = 6
Hence, time taken by Ram, Suresh and Shilpa to finish the work alone is 2 days, 6 days
and 3 days respectively
Hence, difference between the number of days taken by Ram and Shilpa, each working
alone, to complete the work = 3-2 = 1
