The Mayo Clinic Plan is a diet based not only on food selection, but also on helping people make healthy choices to lose weight and keep it off. Diets go through two phases, "lose it," where the emphasis is on dropping pounds, and "live it," where healthy habits are learned. The plan calls for participants to eliminate five bad habits and adopt five healthy ones, as well as to add five bonus habits such as recording what is consumed and the amount of physical exercise performed daily. Recommended foods include low-fat dairy products, olive oil, lean protein, fruits and vegetables.
