Its probably a good idea to speak with your state or county about their requirements for habitability before you make a final decision on whether to live in a pole barn in your area or not. Every county and township has different requirements, and the closer you are to the cities, the more stringent the requirements are likely to be. Its possible that your state or county will allow this type of habitat in more rural areas, but frown upon it and encourage a more traditional house dwelling as you move closer to the urban areas of your state. Other factors to consider is pests such as termites and rodents, weather conditions and state by-laws for constructing such a building. Some neighbourhoods prefer to keep the same look and feel throughout their community and may protest and take it to council when they find out what is being built in their neighbourhood.
