In the Roman baths, there were two categories of slaves. Onetype of slave was the bath house slave who took the entrance money,provided towels and any other need of the client. These slaves ofthe bath houses also saw to it that the water in the various roomswas of the proper temperature and acted as general attendants. Thesecond type of slave was the personal slave who accompanied themaster to the baths. His job was to keep an eye on the master'spossessions, especially his clothes, as thefts were common in thepublic baths.
