I had a classmate who (perhaps after a bit of an exotic scum) fell into a coma and was in it for 3 years. This boy did not communicate at all. It was a living corpse. His wife said it was the worst thing that she didn't know if he perceived her and couldn't show it or not. He died three years later, and I think everyone was relieved. So I think death is more merciful in this case. For all.
