Falling on sand from the same height causes less injury than hard floor. Reason: When a person falls on a hard floor from above, the floor pushes backwards as a reaction on the person. Since the floor is hard and rigid, the amount of this retrograde push is strong. So the injury takes more. On the other hand , when the person falls on the sand from the same height, the sand strikes the person less and less , because the sand is soft and it makes the person move a little downhill easily. So it hurts less to fall on sand than on hard floor.
