: In warm-blooded animals, there is a type of particle called hemoglobin inside the blood cells. When an animal absorbs oxygen-rich air through the lungs, hemoglobin absorbs oxygen from the air inside the lungs. The resulting temporary compound is called oxy-hemoglobin.
