Let me briefly talk about BMI and BMR.Your BMI is your body mass index. It is a number calculated from your weight and height which is used to asses your body composition. It is the indirect measure of how much body fat you have although it doesn't measure your fat directly,it uses your height and weight to determine whether you are underweight, normal weight ,overweight or obese. Your BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories you burn when your body is at rest.BMI may indirectly affect your BMR. BMI is measured by dividing your weight in pounds by the square of your height in inches, then multiplying by 703.The equation looks like (weight /height *height)* 703.A BMI below 18.5 shows that you are underweight,a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 classifies you as normal weight,A BMI between 25 and 29.9 puts you in the overweight category and a BMI of 30 and above classifies you as obese. Your BMR calculation depends on your gender. For females, use the equation 655 +(4.35 * weight in pounds) + (4.7 * height in inches) - (4.7 * age in years). The equation for a man is 66 + (6.32 * weight in pounds) + (12.7 * height in inches) - (6.8 * age in years)
