(i) For a long time, due to unjust and inequitable practices followed by sellers, consumers were extremely dissatisfied. There was no legal system available to consumers to protect them from exploitation in the marketplace. (ii) Usually, when consumers were discontented with a particular product of a brand or a shop, they avoided buying that brand's product or would stop purchasing from that shop. (iii) It was always assumed that consumers were responsible for the commodities or services that they were purchasing and they had to be careful while buying them. It took many years for organisations in India and around the world to create awareness among consumers. Hence, the dissatisfaction of consumers gave rise to the consumer movements.
