I have ires over 20 yrs old, same problem, successful move. They stop blooming when roots are congested.  Need about 6-8" between plants. Thin the area, can transplant excess if you wish.  Roots are shallow tubular in shape. Timing fall or early spring.  Plant in about 1-2" of soil.
