Turnover in my department since I was promoted to supervisor five years ago has decreased from 30 percent to 10 percent. The reason, I believe, is that I treat those who work under me fairly. When a big deadline is coming up, I’m right there working late with them and not heading out the door at 5 P.M. I’ve had employees tell me they appreciate that. This candidate knows that saying he’s highly regarded as a supervisor isn’t enough. He needs to back up his claim, which he does by telling his prospective employer how much turnover in his department decreased since he’s been there. He goes on to tell the interviewer why he believes this is so.

Never Say: “They think I’m a good supervisor. They never complain and they do what I tell them to do.” There’s more to being a good supervisor than this.
