How to Make Deer Feeders
Building a deer feeder has always been a challenging task, as one requires all of the right materials at the right cost. If you are looking to attract deer to hunting spots then what’s better than building a deer feeder? Apart from eating grass and other leaves, the deer feeder combines the mix of corn and pellets so as to attract the immediate attention of the deer and enable deer hunters to gain an attractive opportunity to hunt them. Apart from just acting as bait, the deer feeder is also used in zoos.
Materials Needed
Instead of buying a costly deer feeder, you can build a deer feeder at home. Below are the materials that will enable you to construct a deer feeder in just a couple of hours enabling you to attract deer.
Camouflage tape
Molasses
Duct tape
Wire clothes hanger
Empty coffee can with lid, 3 lb. can preferred as it holds more
Peanut butter
These are general household materials that one will find easily at home. However, if you don’t have materials such as the camouflage tape, then you can paint the coffee can with black or a brown color, which will provide an alternative camouflage. Otherwise, if you have got all the available
material you can build the deer feeder as follows:
Step one: Rinse the coffee can with water and baking soda.
Step two: Cover the outside of the can with camo tape. If you don’t have any camo tape, you can paint the can with a dark color.
Step three: Build a hole right in the middle of the can so that it is big enough to fit the hanger wire.
Step four: Bend the hanger wire through the hole so that it comes out through the hole in an “e” shape. Bend the end of the wire so that it
becomes a 90-degree loop. Bring the loose end of the can from the inside out. The knot at the end, that you have tied, won’t allow the wire to loosen
from the can thus enabling you to hold the can vertically with the wire.
Step five: Drill 1/8 to 3/16 holes at the bottom of the can.
Step six: Mix molasses and peanut butter together in the can. The amount of these ingredients depends upon the size of the can.
Step seven: Attach a lid at the other end of the can to secure the mixture.
Step eight: Hang the can within the proximity of the shooting location, in a sunny spot 4 to 5 feet above the ground. The mixture of the peanut butter will melt and fall to the ground, attracting deer to feed on it.
Step nine: Refill the mixture, in due course of time, when it runs out.
This method is just one of the most basic ways of constructing a deer feeder that allows deer hunters easy feasibility in constructing one.
