I see him as someone who needs a lot of attention in order to confirm his inflated sense of self worth. Unfortunately, suffering from CFS all these years has kept him from the limelight that he so desires. I’ve not read any of his books but if I come across one will give it a shot. And yes I believe he’s brilliant but tend to doubt his wisdom based on my own personal prejudices. I try to stay open minded but don’t always succeed;)
