Their are many foods in all sections of the food pyramid that directly effect heartburn. For fruits stay away from lemons, lemonade, berry juices, as they contain high amounts of citric acid. Also, foods high in fat can relax the muscle that prevents your stomach acid from coming up. Dairy products such as milk can make heartburn worse. Even though it is thought that dairy can coat and sooth this is actually what makes it worse. Drinking water compared to sodas, juices, and teas is very important. Depending on how much of these drinks you have a day the change can drastically help prevent heartburn. Foods high in carbohydrates would be noodles, Cheereos, grains, oats. Dryer foods like these can help prevent acid reflux and heartburn.
