a) Open traverse –

1. When starting point of survey does not coincide with last point of the survey, it is known as open traverse.

2. It is used for the survey roads, rivers coastal line railways. etc.


b) Closed traverse –

1. When the finishing point of survey coincides with the starting point of the survey, it is known as closed traverse.

2. It is suitable for the survey of boundaries of ponds, forests, estate, etc.
