How to Remove a Bumper
Many car customization enthusiasts tweak the exterior of their vehicles to make them look better and more appealing. While many engineers in the auto industry design bumpers fit for the car’s aerodynamics and looks, some people may want to have a better-performing or better-looking bumper. If you want to replace your existing car bumper with an aftermarket part, here are the tools and steps you need to remove it.
Tools
No two bumpers are built alike; they vary in design and the way they are built and attached to the car. Older cars may have a steel structure welded or bolted to the car chassis. Newer makes and models have aluminum, fiberglass, composite, or carbon-fiber bumpers attached to the car body with bolts and screws.
To remove the bumper, you need the following tools:
Socket wrench set (with extender)
Screwdriver

Light fixtures are sometimes found on the bumper. Remove these light fixtures first before removing the bumper from the car body.
If the vehicle has a grille that extends all the way to the bumper assembly, remove it from the car. You may also need to remove the grill to gain access to the bolts holding the bumper in place.
Turn the wheels in such a way that you have access to the wheelwells on one side of the car.
The bumper is held in place on the wheelwell with a series of screws. Carefully remove and store these screws. Do the same for the other side of the bumper.
The bumper is held in place on the side panels of the front end of the car with bolts. Remove these bolts, working one side at a time.
Have a partner or two help you disengage the bumper from the front end of the car.
Once you have removed the existing bumper, you can now take the steps needed to replace the old bumper with aftermarket parts.
