Full disclosure, I'm a therapist. I primarily see trauma survivors. I saw a post on here earlier where the poster asked about negative therapy experiences/incompetent therapist warning signs. I want to validate everyone who has ever been belittled, demeaned, criticized, dismissed, blamed, shamed, mocked, or ridiculed by a therapist, and say I'm sorry on their behalf. There are a lot of awful, selfish, incompetent therapists out there that don't recognize the power and privilege we have in being there for people in their darkest hours and at their most vulnerable. That being said, there are a lot of good ones out there too. Good, empathetic, compassionate, smart, personable, approachable--they exist. They may be harder to find than the former ones, but they're out there. Hearing only horror stories about useless, harmful therapists can discourage people from seeking help they need, and prolong suffering. So I'd like to ask people to list their positive therapy experiences--what helpful, moving, meaningful things have your therapists said, done, or facilitated that keep/kept you going back? :)
